Vishtèn: The Balfa Brothers of Prince Edward Island

The Balfa Brothers brought Cajun folk music from their small area of Louisiana to the whole world in the 1960s. Vishtèn, a trio of musicians (including twin sisters) from the Francophone community of Prince Edward Island and the Magdalen Islands, is bringing the same Acadian roots music into the 21st century. Working with local musicians from PEI, they incorporate mouth music, “crooked” fiddle, percussive dance, and even folk songs such as “Joe Féraille” into their latest album Terre Rouge: a joyous combination of Vishtèn’s global experience with their local culture.
